At tonight’s City of Greater Geraldton council meeting it was agreed to spend more than $55,000 moving a shed that was removed to accommodate a gas main — and put back again.

City of Greater Geraldton land and regulatory services manager Brian Robartson told councillors an easement was negotiated along the side of the Seafarers’ Mission building between Marine Terrace and Foreshore Drive in 2006.

“For reasons unknown, the shed was removed for the purposes of construction but reinstated in its original location, and the statutory process to effect the easement was not progressed,” he wrote.

Council has voted to award a tender to Geraldton Building Services & Cabinets for the construction of a new toilet block at the site of the HMAS Sydney II Memorial.

It is to include four female toilets, two for males, one urinal and one universal access ablution facilities and visitor guide storage facility on site.

Council considered five tenders for the work, which mayor Shane Van Styn said showed “a range of experience and a wide range of pricing”.

Smith Sculptors of Gidgegannup designed the toilet and amenity block to complement the memorial itself which they also designed made 10 years ago.
