Geraldton cricket round 7 preview: CVN and Bluff Point look to turn their season around as the sides face off

The laggards in the Geraldton Bendigo Bank Cricket League, Bluff Point and Chapman Valley-Northampton, will be chasing important wins for their season when the sides face off this week. They meet Friday night in a Young Motors Twenty20 at Wonthella, then Saturday they play 50-overs-a side games. The Pointers will meet Towns at the Rec, while CVN are home at Mazzuchelli Oval against Sportsmans. Both the Pointers and CVN would love two wins to get back into finals contention and barring a draw, one of them will get at least one victory. Hopefully Carl Shilling doesn’t have work commitments and is available as he is only 10 wickets shy of 200. While for CVN, Hayden Dawson needs 49 runs to bring up 3000. Players nearing milestones for Sportsmans are Jarrad Jupp who needs one wicket for 100 wickets while Clint Yeates needs 21 runs to go to 10,349 runs and second spot in the all-time runs list. For Towns, Ringo McKenna is 61 runs shy of 1000 career runs while paceman Tom Forsyth, currently on 181 wickets, can get a little closer to 200. In Young Motors Women’s Cricket League on Sunday, the last round of 30-overs-a-side games will be played. The match-up are a reprise of last week with Wanderers to again play Towns, but this time at the Rec while Sportsmans play CVN at Muir Park.
