Geraldton detectives are investigating after an alleged victim of a robbery in Geraldton’s CBD reported that a gun was produced by a pair of culprits when he refused to hand over a backpack.

Police say on Wednesday, January 18, a 42-year-old man withdrew money from an ATM at Stirling Central about 9.15pm and rode away on a bicycle.

Detectives alleged two male suspects, believed to be aged in their 20s, stopped the man in a car as he rode past, and assaulted him, causing minor bruising and abrasions to his face.

It is then alleged by detectives that “during the scuffle one has produced a gun” and demanded he hand over his property.

“A man stripped him of his backpack and he rode off,” a spokesperson alleged.

Geraldton Detectives believe the reported gun was “potentially a toy gun” and that no cash was stolen from the man.

The two suspects are described as men aged between 25-30 wearing dark clothing.

The 42-year-old had allegedly “gone home and reported it a little while later” and did not require medical attention.

Geraldton Detectives continue to actively conduct inquiries to identify the suspects.
