Geraldton police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Waggrakine on Tuesday afternoon which left a woman with injuries that required her being airlifted to Perth for treatment.

Police say a black Ford Ranger ute was heading north on North West Coastal Highway about 2.40pm when it pulled up on the side of the road near Chapman Valley Road.

A woman who was travelling in the car was then injured and airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Police say it is unclear whether the woman fell from the vehicle or was struck by a passing car in a hit and run.

Police forensics were at the scene of the incident on Wednesday morning gathering evidence.

Geraldton Detectives officer-in-charge Det-Sen. Sgt Bruce McDonald said the woman was in a stable condition with grazing and bruising to her body.

He said police spoke with the woman and the driver of the Ford Ranger on Thursday.

“Her injuries are not serious and it is expected she will be released from hospital in the next couple of days,” he said.

“We are still unsure exactly what has happened, but we are keeping an open mind and would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw something or has dash cam footage.”
