Geraldton Health Campus upgrades set to be completed by 2026 according to State Government tender documents

A timetable released with the State Government’s tender documents for upgrades to Geraldton Health Campus have revealed the government expects work to start in September 2023 and finish in mid 2026. The project is now open to expressions of interest after it was added to the Tenders WA website. According to documents on the project’s page, the government aims to have construction started in September next year after signing a contract with a company in August, and expects work to be completed in 2026, two years after it was initially meant to be finished. Shadow regional health minister Martin Aldridge said he believed the 2026 completion date was optimistic and unrealistic given labour and supply issues which caused the first delay were still present. “The notion that this hospital is going to be built in three years is almost fanciful,” he said. Mr Aldridge also questioned whether the upgrades would be able to meet demand in 2026, given the designs were based on 2024-25 estimates. “My concern always, that by the time they actually built and opened the hospital, we would almost be at the point of the projected service demand, and now with the delay,” he said. Finance Minister Tony Buti said the government was committed and eager to get on with the project and would continue to provide quality care. “The second stage is out for EOI and we’re looking forward to seeing what the private sector puts forward,” he said. The project is set to include an expanded emergency department, more beds, a new intensive car unit and a mental health unit.
