With the unveiling of the new Indigenous kit, Round 18 carried a special significance for Yacht Club and the entire Geraldton hockey community on Saturday.

The highlight of the round came with the unveiling of the Yacht Club Hockey Club’s new Indigenous kit, designed by local artist Mauretta Drage.

Sponsored by Balayi Delivery, an Indigenous-owned company, the kit symbolises the club’s recognition of its past, present, and future Indigenous players.

Club member Allan Butson also played a key role in bringing this vision to life, contributing to the artist’s fee – while Tristan Hunt, owner of Balayi Delivery, collaborated with the club, turning a long-held idea into a reality.

On the field in the women’s A-grade competition, the Cardinals dominated Murchison with a 7-0 victory.

Dayna Cooper and Mikala Van Niftrik both scored twice, while Sharnee Williamson and Kiara Jones added to the tally.

In a tightly contested match, Yacht Club edged out Australs 1-0, thanks to a lone goal from Hayley McGlynn.

The Saints continued their strong form, defeating Swans 4-1. Christie Bestry was on fire, scoring two goals, with Aimee Hagan and Lisa Norris contributing one each, while Kat Allen scored the consolation goal for Swans.

In the men’s A-grade, Saints proved too strong for Australs-Yacht Club, coming away with a 4-0 win. Jack Hoskins, Matt O’Neill, Will Mackay, and Chris McNaught each found the back of the net.

Casuals also posted an impressive 4-0 victory over Murchison, with Brad Delane, Jadyn Fitzsimmons, Lachlan Camerer, and Clint Yeates all getting their names on the scoresheet.

In the women’s A-reserve, Swans narrowly defeated Murchison 1-0, with Jenny Puglia scoring the only goal.

Australs had a solid 2-0 win over Cardinals, courtesy of two goals from Lizette Labuschagne.

Yacht Club Gold overcame Yacht Club Blue 3-1, with goals from Cherie Potaczala, Margot Ramsay, and Taylor Beros, while Saskia Ash scored for the Blue team.

Vets drew with Saints 1-1, with Samantha Cranwell scoring for Vets and Cassie Cox for the Saints.

In the men’s A-reserve, Rovers beat Murchison 4-0, with Nik Valenti netting two, alongside goals from Liam Appleton and Nathan Kietzmann.

Yacht Club snatched a 1-0 victory over Australs thanks to a goal from Cooper Schwarz.

Casuals finished the round with a 4-1 win over Saints, with Kieran Marsden, Will Bateman, Enan Hann, and Jasper March all scoring, while Tom Gray managed to get one back for Saints.
