Geraldton Inner Wheel celebrate 5th brithday

It’s the inner wheel that makes the outer wheel go around, and Friday, August 20, was about getting around the Geraldton Inner Wheel Club as members celebrated its fifth birthday.

The Inner Wheel is a ladies’ wing of Rotary, formed initially by the wives of Rotarians who were giving their time and energy in the background of their husbands’ voluntary work.

The quiet celebration of quiet work was held at Birdwood Hall RSL. Thirty-two local women, and some supportive husbands, reflected on their achievements, flanked on all sides by medals and memorabilia from the wars of the 20th century.

Club president Margret Pike gave a speech hailing the more than $100,000 the Inner Wheel has contributed to local and national charities in the clubs’ short history, before handing cake-cutting duties to Lesley Colliver.

“The Queen” as she was dubbed, recently rose to the position of Inner Wheel State chair.
