Police are appealing for public assistance after two young boys were set upon while playing basketball in an attempted robbery last week.

Det-Sen. Sgt Bruce McDonald said the incident occurred around 5.50pm on Tuesday, May 25, at the Fraser Street Park in Beachlands when a group of boys approached the pair.

“As they were playing basketball they were approached by a group of eight to nine juvenile boys on pushbikes who demanded the two young boys hand over the keys to a moped bike,” he said.

“During the incident, one of the boys in the juvenile group produced a pair of scissors.”

He said the two boys refused and called police, leading the group to flee the scene in the direction of the Beachlands Primary School.

The group have been described as being male, between the ages of 13 and 16, dark-skinned and wearing dark coloured clothing.

Det-Sen. Sgt McDonald said police were seeking help to identify those involved.

He asked anyone with information to contact Geraldton Detectives on 9923 4555.
