Geraldton driver Callum Williamson suffered a crash early in the Sprintcar Series grand final as the season came to an end on the weekend.

Last weekend saw the 2023-24 Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series come to a head with the grand final, after a long season of drivers competing for ladder points.

Williamson was out of the running to take the ladder due to missing the start of the season and being behind on points, but he had put together some good finishes throughout the season, including most recently taking out the win in the Silver Cup and a podium finish in the Gold Cup.

The night started well for Williamson and his camp, coming out as the second quickest in the qualifying race and then a first-place finish in the heat.

The triumphs did not stop there, as Williamson stormed home to take out the win in the Revolution Racegear A Dash race after starting at p3.

With the strong placings, the Geraldton-born driver set himself up for a pole position start in the 30-lap feature race.

However, his night ended early after attempting to move into the lead spot out of the fourth turn over Dayne Kingshott.

Williamson ran out of room and his back right tyre hit the wall, causing him to crash and heavily damaging his car, ending his night.

He came out of the race okay, posting on social media “I got a little too excited”.

With the season now over, Williamson finished just outside the top 10 for the Sprintcar Series ladder, with 2268 points putting him at 11th place.

In the Triple Crown ladder he ended at 16th place with 246 overall points.

With the WA Sprintcar Series now over, Williamson has his sights set on the US as he travels to Pennsylvania to begin his US racing career with Trone Outdoor Motorsports in the #39 car.

He will take on some of the very best competition in more than 40 races across 14 different tracks, including the High Limit Race and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car race.
