Geraldton man pleads guilty after hitting 165km/h, while other man admits he drove recklessly over 45km/h

A man who drove at a speed of 165km/h in a 110km/h zone on Brand Highway has lost his licence and been fined, while another man who broke the speed limit by at least 45km/h also pleaded guilty. Lyam Christopher Anderson was detected driving 55km/h over the speed limit on January 19, along a stretch of road in Warradarge, according to Police prosecutor Senior Constable Paul White. The 23-year old pleaded guilty in his first court appearance in Geraldton on Friday, saying he knew he made a “stupid” decision that he would not make again. Magistrate Evan Shackleton agreed it was a foolish choice. “Have you ever seen a car hit a tree at that kind of speed?” the magistrate asked. Mr Anderson was given a $200 fine and had his licence disqualified for six months. Another man, Kevin Bradon Bonney, pleaded guilty on the same day to reckless driving exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more. Bonney breached his community-based order with the offence, after several criminal offences he was convicted of in March 2022, and will appear for sentencing on March 27.
