The atmosphere at the Geraldton Junior and Senior Motocross Club was electric on Sunday as riders of all levels gathered for the first event and inaugural ride day of the season.

With the track in prime condition, it was an ideal opportunity for both newcomers to the sport and seasoned riders to hone their skills.

About 100 riders attended the special introduction day, with many experiencing the track for the first time.

Despite catering to various ability levels, the event also provided a platform for experienced riders like Jared Blakeney to prepare for the upcoming race season.

Blakeney, known for his podium finishes in previous seasons, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and commended the efforts of the club in improving the track conditions for the upcoming races.

“It was good to see everyone at the club again after a good break, the club had done a great effort in getting more water into the track for this season’s racing. Coming in unfit as always and only ridden a handful of times in the off-season,” he said.

Jared’s cousin, Chantelle Blakeney, echoed his sentiments, praising the success of the Come and Ride Day.

“The Come and Ride Day went incredibly well, It was fantastic to see so many riders of all skill levels coming together to share their love for dirt biking,” she said.

“The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, with everyone supporting each other and having a blast on the track. It truly showcased the spirit of the club and teamwork within the dirt biking community.”

As an experienced C-grade rider, Chantelle Blakeney eagerly anticipated the start of the new race season, expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming competitions.

“I’m absolutely looking forward to the new race season, I can’t wait for the new season to kick off with the first race next Sunday,” she said.

“Today was just a taste of the excitement to come, and I’m already counting down the days until we’re back on the track.”

Club spokesperson Makala Edwards relayed the club’s satisfaction with the day and everyone’s excitement about the season ahead.

“A dry day dawned with a little fog that cleared into a noise-filled day of fun for all,” she said.

“From people who had never ridden a race track to seasoned pros.”

With the season right around the corner, Edwards and the rest of the club was excited for the action to get started.

“The club hopes that all riders that came out to the ride day will come back and race with us this season,” Edwards said.

“Ninety-two riders today, 100 next week would be great, the club has seven rounds planned for this season and can’t wait to get it started.”
