Geraldton MP Lara Dalton in front-line role in Cyclone Seroja recovery effort

Newly minted Member for Geraldton Lara Dalton has been copping criticism online for staying away from Facebook during and after cyclone Seroja.

“With the communications ban it has been hard to put stuff on social media,” she said.

“I thought it was more important to share important bits of information about who to call for help.”

Ms Dalton said she had spent little time in the office since the natural disaster, instead attending emergency management briefings and several hours each day at the QEII evacuation centre.

I have certainly hit the ground running as a new MP,

she said.

“I was not at the QEII Centre all day, I’ve been out in the community just trying to be supporting and help people out.
