A plane from Geraldton will join the search this morning for a 28-year-old man who was swept out to sea while fishing on rocks near Quobba Station, about 80km north of Carnarvon.

The search resumed at first light, with the plane set to join search and rescue teams at 9am.

SES crews and police are searching the coastline, along with two Volunteer Marine Rescue vessels.

The missing man was fishing at High Rocks with other fisherman just after noon yesterday, when a large wave washed him off the top of a cliff.

Witnesses tried to save the man but were unable to pull him from the ocean.

A rescue boat was dispatched by Carnarvon Sea Search and Rescue yesterday.
