The fourth round of the WA Gravity Enduro Series, which also served as the WA State Championships, took place on Saturday in Geraldton at the Echidna Park Sporting Club.

Riders from Albany to Karratha and even Port Hedland, gathered at the venue, with Mid West locals achieving remarkable success.

Nearly 400 riders tackled the challenging 15 kilometre track of eight technical stages in wet and muddy conditions, with around 300 spectators watching on.

Local competitor and women’s 30-39 winner Janelle Phillips said the weather made for a competitive day.

“The conditions were super challenging, with a lot of rainfall the night before and during making for sloshy, steep trails,” she said.

“It was awesome to have the whole family competing, super proud of the kids.”

Her husband Josh Phillips tasted success as well, winning the men’s 30-39 category alongside Mark Appleyard and James Bruce.

Their children also excelled with Addi Phillips, 12, placing third in the under-13 girls category and Thea Phillips, 9, securing sixth place in the under-11 girls category.

Other local standout performances included Lochie Taylor winning the men’s 19-29 category and Louise Turner taking first in the women’s masters 40-49 category.

“The day was spectacular, the weather threw everything at us making a really tricky course even harder and totally different to the practice conditions on Saturday,” Turner said.

“I am totally stoked for the win, there are a great group of Geraldton riders that do a lot of travel to put the training in for events like this, so it was so fun to bring it all together at a beautiful local venue.”

Other notable local performances included Linda Euren finishing second in the women’s 40+ division, Tom Finaske coming 14th in the men’s 40+ and Alexia Wekwerth clinching first place in the welcome women’s category.
