Geraldton police and rapid apprehension squad detectives nut down on volume crime, arresting 45 people

Geraldton police arrested 45 people and laid charges for a range of offences last week in an operation to combat unresolved volume crime cases, with help from rapid apprehension squad detectives. The RAS detectives travel across WA to assist regional stations arrest and charge repeat offenders in their communities, and made the City of Greater Geraldton one of their most recent stops. On Monday, June 12, the detectives travelled from Perth and helped local police arrest 45 people last week. Geraldton police acting officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Shilo O’Neill said the arrests were a result of outstanding volume crime offences and arrest warrants. Sen. Sgt O’Neill confirmed some of the charges included three counts of aggravated armed robbery, three counts of burglary, two counts of steal motor vehicle, 21 stealing charges, 11 fraud charges as well as trespass and criminal damage. She said the squad assisted police to resolve outstanding arrests and crime files when police tended to see a backlog of unresolved investigations, and helped bring offenders before the courts. “They come up and give us a hand in locating people and resolving some of those crimes that we need to interview and arrest for,” she said. “We were really lucky they came up.”
