Geraldton Police bust alleged drug dealers, make four arrests and issue 53 traffic fines in one-day blitz

Alleged drug and traffic offenders were nabbed during a one-day police blitz in Geraldton last week, which resulted in four arrests, 53 infringements and a trafficable quantity of meth seized. Operation Kilsyth was conducted on Friday in Beresford by Mid West-Gascoyne traffic, with help from Geraldton detectives, Geraldton police and the Department of Transport. Information provided to police was that drugs seized were destined for locations up north. Geraldton police head of traffic, Sergeant George Tilbury, said the operation was successful. “People conveying illicit drugs through our district best be looking over their shoulder, as police will use all available resources to crack down on drug dealers,” he said. Two men, aged 35 and 36, from Bilingurr and Spalding, were arrested and charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply and having ready access to both weapons and illicit drugs. The pair were bailed to appear in Geraldton Magistrates Court on April 20 and 24. The operation processed more than 1540 random breath tests, with police issuing 53 traffic infringements, 73 cautions and 24 compliance notices as well as impounding three vehicles. More than 18 court summons were issued, including one in relation to the possession of cannabis, two for the possession of drug paraphernalia and eight for driving under the influence of an illicit substance. “Those taking drugs and driving vehicles can also expect to be pulled over by police, as this risky behaviour is putting all road users at unnecessary risk,” Sgt Tilbury said. “I encourage the community to dob in drug dealers and anyone who drives under the influence of illicit drugs, so we can continue to tackle this scourge on our community.”
