Geraldton Regional Art Gallery’s Ink in the Lines exhibition delves into link between tattoos and the military

Knowing that tattoos are the focus of an art exhibition should be enough to realise that it’s going to be an artistic display with a difference. Tattoos will be front and centre at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery, in its first exhibition for 2023 titled Ink in the Lines. It’s a touring exhibition courtesy of the Australian War Memorial, providing a photographic insight into how Australian veterans and their families share their experiences through tattoos. City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn was looking forward to this latest offering at GRAG. “Tattoos are an increasingly popular form of expression in Australia and this exhibition is thought to be the first in Australia to explore the use of tattoos in the military,” he said. “Ink in the Lines provides the opportunity for Art Gallery goers to engage with our servicemen and women in a unique and personal manner. “I encourage everyone to take the time to visit GRAG whilst Ink in the Lines is on show and absorb the stories behind the body art of those who choose to serve our country.” Ink in the Lines will officially open on Friday, February 3, at 6pm. However it’s available to view from Saturday, January 28. Tickets to the opening night event are limited and people can register their attendance via Eventbrite. The exhibition will run at GRAG until Sunday, March 12.
