Fast-paced cricket and colour promises a more exciting and popular form of the game for country week starting this weekend.

It will be an opportunity to see the changes that the Australian Country Cricket Board has made to the format of the competition that were announced in October last year.

The format of the competition changes from 60-over red ball cricket with whites to a one-day white ball tournament with coloured kits.

The Geraldton Regional Cricket Board unveiled its new coloured outfits on Tuesday night that will be showcased in Perth during country week.

Player-coach of Geraldton’s seconds side travelling to Perth for the tournament, Mitchell McAuliffe, said both sides were looking forward to the chance to shine in the one-day format.

“We are really excited to shift our focus to the short form of the game,” he said.

“We have a few younger guys in the team this year who really enjoy the short form.”

With fielding and bowling restrictions, McAuliffe said it would make the games a bit more competitive and interesting.

“The use of power plays and bowlers being limited to 10 overs will open up the comp,” he said.

“It will just make the game more interesting, we have seen that on a professional level over the last few years so it’s exciting.”

As coach, McAuliffe wants to bring some enjoyment to the game along with the new exciting format.

“I just want to boys to have some fun,” he said.

“At the end of the day that’s what it’s all about at country week.”
