Geraldton Senior High School enjoy Great Gatsby themed Year 12 ball at Yacht Club with awards
Geraldton Senior High School’s Class of 2023 enjoyed a night of glitter and glam last Saturday, as they attended their Great Gatsby themed Year 12 ball.
The school ball is a rite of passage in the final year of high school and Saturday night was GSHS’ turn in the spotlight.
Students arrived from 7pm on Saturday at the Geraldton Yacht Club in original styles and unique modes of transport. An acknowledgement of country was held by the school’s head boy and girl Christian Wright and Keely Giba before the ball starting and the dancing kicked off.
The Greatest Gatsby award went to Khyesha Comeagain for the most on-theme outfit. She rocked up in a cream gown with gold and white stripes, a cream scarf and stunning white jewellery.
The red carpet arrivals were a highlight, and Sophie Harris and Mikayla Cremin entrance on a jet-ski was awarded the night’s roaring arrival prize.
The life of the party was Mr Wright who was awarded the Gatsby Party dancer for his encouragement of others to get on the dancefloor, which he couldn’t keep off.
Beau of the ball went to Clint Meyer who looked stylish in a baby-pink suit with a black shirt and tie dressed with flowers, while Shekana Gilewski-Larsen was crowned belle of the ball for her impressive holographic sequin gown.
GSHS principal Emma Walker said the ball ran smoothly and was a positive experience for the Year 12s and thanked the ball committee for their outstanding effort.
“Students were on fine display, not just in their wonderful appearance but also in their manners and conduct, really displaying our values of respect to all as they mixed well together as a group,” she said.
“What was lovely is how many students thanked staff as they left and headed off at the conclusion of the night to remember.”
