Geraldton Universities Centre announces UniReady program with Curtin University for local high schools

Geraldton Universities Centre has teamed up with Curtin University to deliver a UniReady program for Year 12 students at Geraldton Senior and Champion Bay Senior High Schools.

UniReady is an alternate entry pathway run by Curtin where students complete four units and upon successful completion of the course, are awarded am ATAR of 70 and English competency, providing entry into a number of university programs.

Eleven students from Geraldton’s two public high school schools will make up the starting cohort for 2023.

GUC director Natalie Nelmes said the program would allow students to qualify for university entrance at the end of Year 12, as opposed to waiting until the following year.

“So they’ll undertake two units for the first 15 weeks of the year, and then the second two units. They’ll still be finished at the same time as the ATAR kids.”

Ms Nelmes said the students would attend the centre every Friday for face-to-face classes, as well having online support.

“I think what’s really terrific is it will create a genuine transition for the students, because they’ll already be coming out of school a day a week to a university environment that we offer here at GUC.”

“So it will really help that transition from high school into tertiary education as well,” she said.
