Geraldton’s Chris Scott has shared his career journey with students at last month’s Clontarf Academy forum.

A former Clontarf boy himself, Mr Scott started a traineeship with Water Corporation in 2020 and is now fully qualified.

As a local Water Corporation operator he helps ensure the delivery of safe drinking water to the Geraldton community.

Speaking to a group of students at the forum, Mr Scott detailed some of the insights he has gained along the journey and encouraged them to consider a career in the industry.

“The training and mentorship I received from the crew at Clontarf enabled me to gain employment with Water Corporation,” Scott said.

“In turn, they gave me the training and confidence to successfully complete my traineeship, which led to a full-time position.”

Mr Scott, who won this year’s JJ Clune Medal playing for Rovers, said he was keen to give back to both organisations and was proud to share his thoughts with the young fellas.

“Aboriginal people have a strong connection with water, and it is a privilege to work in an industry whose main purpose is to look after this precious resource.”

Water Corporation Mid West regional manager Steve Greeve said they had a robust system in place to help support and retain new Aboriginal employees.

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve recruited more than 10 Aboriginal employees across the Mid West,” he said.
