Geraldton’s foreshore gelato man gets online support

Supporters have started an online petition to help Fusions Gelato owner Tobias Dieterich’s bid to keep selling his home made product to children after their swimming lessons.

The petition was started using the petition platform Change.org on Thursday, December 25 and five days later it had more than 300 signatures.

Dozens of people have also posted messages of support on The Geraldton Guardian Facebook page.

When they met last month Councillors voted 11-1 to renew Mr Dieterich’s vendor’s licence, but first to put it out for 14 days’ public comment before it went back to Council for final consideration.

Council is due to meet again on Wednesday, January 27.

Mr Dietrich said he had been selling his gelato in two locations, known as Site A and Site B, for three years before his licence expired on October 30.

Site A is near the Jaffle Shack kiosk and Champion Bay surf lifesaving club where Mr Dietrich said he parked his van during children’s holiday swimming lessons.

“I usually shift straight after the swimming lessons are finished my Spot B,” he said.

Site B is near the children’s playground further south at Stow Gardens where Mr Dietrich said he stayed for the majority of his selling time.
