Geraldton’s Jack Etherton stars playing for Victoria at U18 National Softball Championships in Sydney

Geraldton softball talent Jack Etherton has returned from the U18 National Softball Championships in Sydney with yet another accolade to his name.

Representing Victoria, the Geraldton youngster delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, earning the title of best U18 pitcher.

The tournament at the Blacktown International Sportspark from January 21 to 26 saw Jack showcase his impressive skills, pitching a total of 26 innings, striking out 50 batters and achieving an exceptional earned run average (ERA) of just 0.53.

His stats and dedication to the game have solidified his status as one of the nation’s most promising young pitchers.

Victoria finished fourth on the ladder and faced a tough elimination final against WA, ultimately bowing out of the competition.

Despite the loss, Jack’s individual brilliance did not go unnoticed, with his contributions playing a crucial role in his team’s success in the tournament.

Jack said he was grateful to his Geraldton softball family and acknowledged the support from all local clubs, as well as Belinda Ainslie and Kathy Bedwell for giving him the opportunity to play for Victoria.

A special thanks went to his pitching coach and mentor Ashley Walker for not only honing his physical skills but also helping him maintain strong mental resilience throughout the competition.

As his determination and dedication continue to impress, it seems Jack’s dream of pitching for Australia is well within reach.

The Geraldton Softball Association congratulated Jack on his phenomenal achievement and looks forward to seeing where his journey takes him next.
