A melting pot of cultures graced the stage of the Queens Park Theatre for the opening act of Seniors Week, the multicultural concert.

The concert and afternoon tea on Saturday, November 9 featured performances from China, Indonesia, Philippines, India and Africa as well as local dance studios and singers.

Hosted by the Midwest Multicultural Association, the performers captured conveyed a variety of themes and emotions, ranging from love and family to fun and street dancing.

MWMA chair Noma Mahlangu said the event was a wonderful celebration of diversity and inclusion.

“Thank you to all the performers who so professionally showcased their heritage with animated dances and beautiful costumes,” she said.

“The volunteers have practiced many hours to share their love of music and dance with the rest of the community.

“The multicultural concert is an opportunity to come together and celebrate the richness of our cultural diversity, the inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone who calls the Mid West home.”

A “gratitude tree”, that was available at the Festival of Lights earlier this month, was in the QPT foyer, allowing people to share their feelings of being thankful in life.

“It is lovely to see that, at the core, so many people are grateful for the presence of family and friends — reminding us all of the importance of connection and support in our lives,” Ms Mahlangu said.

The MWMA’s next community event is Harmony Festival, set for Saturday, March 15 next year at Stow Gardens.
