A Geraldton band is looking to bring their musical stylings closer to home after performing across the Mid West.

Good Strife, comprising sisters Kimberley (lead singer) and Caroline Allison (guitarist), Richard Donohue (bass guitarist), Zephyr Hicks (drummer) and Finn Smith (lead guitarist), has performed at events across the region, including the Northampton Show, the North Midlands Country Carnival in Carnamah, and the Sunshine Festival.

While the group is happy to go far and wide, they said they are determined to make an imprint on the Geraldton music scene.

“We deliberately put our name out there because we want to get more home gigs; we can get gigs out of town no problem,” Kimberley said.

“Finding gigs in town has been a struggle because a lot of venues want solos, duos, DJs or out-of-town acts.”

The Allisons’ love of music began in their childhood, with the Geraldton locals recalling seeing bands on stage on Australia Day and wishing for the opportunity to do the same one day.

The group has been able to make it work, despite members battling different day-to-day commitments, including work and school.

Their style is not limited to one genre according to the band, with the group putting their own spin on classics while dabbling in their own original songs.

The hope was to one day share their music around the world, but they would be proud to become a frequent part of the Geraldton arts space going forward.

Caroline said it would begin this weekend, with the band’s gig in town.

“It’s about bringing the party back to Geraldton and the Mid West. Think of the old pub gigs from 20 years ago with a bit of a twist,” she said.

“It’s going to be a rock show, but not everything will be a rock song, and there’s going to be plenty of surprises.

“We want to bring back live local bands to Geraldton, that’s our goal.”

The group will be performing at Cutler and Smith from 8pm on Saturday, October 19.

Tickets are available online via Eventbrite or at the door on the night.
