High school of champions taking shape

Rangeway’s John Willcock College is ready to officially become Champion Bay Senior High School at the start of 2019.

Last week marked the school’s final days as a public middle school, teaching students from Years 7 to 9. From February 4, the school will also teach Year 10 students.

The school unveiled its newly designed uniforms, which replace the former maroon and yellow stripes and sides with light blue and white.

The crest has also changed to feature a number of elements, including the Yamatji symbol for stars and sails to represent Champion Bay.

“The crest took a great deal of work and consultation, but we are really pleased with how it looks and what it represents for our school,” Principal Julie Campbell said.

“In terms of the school name, colours and crest we decided to redefine and renew the school image which has seen many changes in the past 43 years.

“The name Champion Bay Senior High School was selected after consultation with the school community as both a geographical reference to the city’s position next to Champion Bay and the aspiration for our students to become champions in their own pursuits.”

The school will add an extra year group each year until it becomes a fully fledged high school.

Geraldton Senior College, which teaches students from Years 10 to 12, is transitioning into Geraldton Senior High School and will expand into lower years from 2019.

Champion Bay Senior High School uniforms will be available at Total Uniforms from January 2. Students have received a voucher to offset costs.
