Hill River fatal crash: Police, Dandaragan Shire president confirm 29-year-old victim was Jurien Bay local

The shocking death of a 29-year-old man in a car crash in the Mid West on Thursday night has rocked the community, as police reveal the driver was a local from Jurien Bay. Major crash investigators continue to examine the incident that occurred on Banovich Road in between Hill River and Warradarge, east of Jurien Bay, on Thursday about 7.18pm. Police said a Mitsubishi Triton was driving south when it failed to negotiate a curve, crashing into a tree. The 29-year-old died at the scene. WA Police confirmed on Friday afternoon the victim was from Jurien Bay. Police say it is too early in the investigation to speculate on the circumstances of the crash, and many factors are yet to be ruled out. Dandaragan Shire president Leslee Holmes said Shire staff visited the scene and noted it was on a gravel road in “fine” condition and the impact had taken out a tree. Cr Holmes said she pleaded with people to drive to the conditions so these dreadful tragedies wouldn’t happen again. “People need to drive to the conditions — so many accidents occur because they don’t,” she said. “This is going to be ongoing now everyone is back on the road again.” Cr Holmes said although overseas travellers were not related to Thursday’s fatal, she’d noticed an influx of cars and caravans on the roads 24/7. “The big problem for us is, while we welcome overseas travellers, many people aren’t used to driving on long stretches,” she said.
