Huge fields scheduled for Geraldton Turf Club’s Sunday race day
Nearly 80 horses will be in action at the Geraldton Turf Club on Sunday as a full seven-race card will provide plenty of action for punters.
Race one is an 1100m maiden with five horses making their debut. Trainer Julia Martin’s Bold Prophet looks the most likely to break through after 20 race starts with three placings at his past three starts.
Another galloper with a winning chance is Perth trainer Adam Durrant’s Exchange Rate who was impressive in his debut late last year, while Ouqburra has been knocking on the door with three placings at his past three starts at Geraldton.
Race two is over 1400m and also for maidens. Vivarok and Miss Infinity are making their debuts. Look for Miles Bain’s Escalating to compete strongly while Allan Hughes’ Destructor has also shown promise with four placings at his past five race starts all at the Geraldton track.
In the 1900m Rating 68+ handicap Greg Spowart’s Edmond and Barry Newnham’s Brisance are likely to be fancied, but it is a hot field with gallopers like Blue Cheyenne and Black Money likely to make their presence felt.
Sam Rains’ Graciebird was disappointing at the Mingenew Cup but is a better horse than what she showed and may be tempting for those looking outside the favourites.
Desert Petard is the early favourite for race four over 1600m with a Pinjarra win two weeks ago and Durrant could produce a quinella with Ihts Closing Inn also in good form.
A big field of 15 is scheduled to contest race five, the biggest of the day. Chix Chatter, a winner of three races at the track, will be looking for another victory, but the Durrant-trained Speed Bubble, with two wins and a second at his past three Geraldton starts, is set to make it a thrilling battle.
Justa a Lil Faith is the early favourite for race six with the John Reynolds-trained Bidaya the closest challenger with a win at his last start.
Race seven over 1200m looks to be a two-horse race between Ron Cowl Junior’s Be Seated and Jeanella with the latter not finishing outside of the top two this year.
Gates open from 12pm with race one scheduled to begin at 1:36 pm, The club will also hold a raffle with a $10,000 Mitchell & Brown voucher the main prize.
