The GBSC Sports Park will be alive with colour this weekend as hundreds from Geraldton and the Mid West walk the oval during Relay For Life’s annual 24-hour event.

With 32 teams to lace up their joggers, the annual 2017 Relay For Life Midwest will begin with an opening ceremony on Saturday at 11.45am, followed by the Survivors’ and Carers’ lap.

Teams have spent the past year raising funds for the Cancer Council, an effort praised by committee chairwoman Janet Daly.

“I’d like to thank all team members for your amazing effort over the last 12 months,” she said.

“Times are tough but you have all done your very best to help in the fight against cancer.”

The community is also invited to watch a big line-up of local talents perform over the weekend.

The Relay For Life Midwest Family Fun Day will also be held at the oval on Saturday, with children’s activities, food and stalls on display.

On Saturday night, the annual Candlelight Ceremony will begin at 8pm to remember those affected by cancer.

Mrs Daly said the relay was a chance to celebrate, remember and fight back.
