Innovative refurbishment to help Geraldton Bowling Club save water and park cars safely

Locals will enjoy rolling up to a freshly resurfaced car park when they attend their weekly lawn bowls activities following the completion of a long-awaited Geraldton Bowling Club project.

The resurfacing works will also recharge the club’s two onsite water bores, which help keep the three grass greens healthy.

Club president Neil Exten said rainfall run-off from the refurbished car park would provide an additional water source for the greens.

“To maintain a high quality of water the club redirects the rainfall run-off from the roof of the clubhouse, and now more importantly from the club carpark,” he said.

“With the help of the McGowan Government and local member Lara Dalton, the club can fully utilise the fully sealed car park and also benefit from the stormwater run-off as well.”

The State Government contributed $30,000 to the project, with funding also provided by the City of Greater Geraldton and the club.

Ms Dalton said she admired the innovation of the “dual-purpose” project.

“By harvesting the storm water run-off from the newly resealed parking area, the club will ensure a reliable water supply for their grass greens,” she said.

“The Geraldton Bowling Club and their volunteers were very well organised and with top quality works from local contractors they are already making the most of the winter rains.”
