International buyers visit Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-op as trade mission promotes WA produce to global markets

The Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative was one of a group of WA food producers to welcome industry guests from across the globe last week to get a taste of what the State has to offer. Twenty food buyers from markets including Israel, the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore spoke to members of the GFC and visited one of its facilities on March 27. The representatives toured WA as part of the Taste WA trade mission, and visited a number of food and beverage producers. GFC general manager trade and business development Bryan Keay said guests were introduced to the co-operative’s operations, and its range of western rock lobster products. Trade missions such as this play an important role in introducing the Co-operative’s produce to international markets. “Inbound trade missions are a great tool to introduce some of Western Australia’s diverse produce and meet potential buyers,” he said. Regional Development and Fisheries Minister Don Punch said the Taste WA Premium Food Mission was an important opportunity to showcase the State’s premium produce such as GFC’s western rock lobster. “These trade missions increase international awareness and export sales of our premium agrifood and wine offerings, and promote the State as an attractive wine and agrifood tourism destination to grow the reputation of the Western Australian brand,” he said. Food Minister Jackie Jarvis said there was strong potential for WA food producers in the international market, post-COVID-19. “Taste WA provides WA producers with the opportunity to connect directly with buyers to increase awareness of and demand for their products and develop business relationships,” she said.
