International Jetstar flight diverted to Geraldton due to poor weather conditions
Bad weather forced a Jetstar flight en route from Bali to divert to Geraldton last week.
Last Thursday about 2am, Geraldton Airport staff were contacted and informed of the Jetstar flight to Perth which was being rerouted.
According to the City of Greater Geraldton, the aircraft had attempted to land at Perth Airport, but was not able to due to the weather conditions and poor visibility.
Acting chief executive Paul Radalj said the airport staff were quick to respond.
“Geraldton Airport mobilised late at night to facilitate landing and refuelling of the aircraft before it returned to Perth,” he said.
It’s understood the passengers stayed on board the aircraft while it was stopped in the city, before taking off to Perth a short time later.
Jetstar has been contacted for comment.
Several days later a Qantas flight from Perth to Paraburdoo had to divert to Geraldton after a “mechanical issue” caused severe turbulence during which passengers were told to brace.
