Kazuals finally overcome finals curse and beat Aztecs to claim their first senior one title in nine years

The Kazuals overcame their grand final curse in beating rivals Aztecs in the senior one grand final of the Geraldton Netball Association.

It’s the third straight year the two sides have faced off in the big dance, but Kazuals got their revenge after back-to-back losses dethroning the Aztecs 50-41 on Friday.

It’s the first senior one title for the Kazuals in nine years, following their finals heartbreak the side finally managed to get over the hump and claim glory.

After falling short in the past two years, Kazuals cap off their best year season in recent years – putting up an 11-1 record and dominating the Aztecs in their qualifying final clash.

While for the Aztecs, their hopes of a four-peat came crashing down after the side had been the controlling force of the competition with their hattrick cups. Beating the Kazuals in 2023 and 2022, and the Pumas in 2021.

Ruby Wallace was named best on ground in the grand final during the win, capping off a stunning season.

Following the excitement of the decider, the league’s best talent was recognised with the All-Stars, and it was dominated by the grand final sides. The Aztecs were well represented with five selections, while Kazuals featured three players and each of Pumas and Lightning had one.

The end of season awards were presented, with Caitlin Wilson from the Pumas taking top honours as the leagues fairest and best. While Michelle Taylor from the Aztecs was named the runner-up fairest and best.

The Falcons Netball Club were donned as the club of the year and Kazuals leader Callum Darch was named coach of the year.
