Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma are riding high after a 6-0 win as they prepare for an important clash against the league’s top side this weekend.

In round two the Reds had one of their biggest wins getting up over Swan Valley by five goals, now they have gone past that after defeating Wanneroo City by six goals last round.

“At the beginning of the season we said the win against Swan Valley was our biggest in a long time, we obviously topped that with six-nil,” team captain Lachlan Gray said.

“The boys were stoked to be able to have that many opportunities and to finish our opportunities.”

Despite the blowout win all the goals came in short bursts, which Gray said came down to the squad’s fitness.

“It could have been a very different story, they hit the bar in the first 15 minutes from a fast break and we hadn’t scored by that stage,” he said.

“It took us 40 minutes to score our first goal, then we scored four goals in five minutes.

“Again in the second half, we scored two goals in the last eight minutes of the game . . . I think fitness might have had a bit to do with that.”

La Fiamma will be chasing another big performance this week when they take on ladder leaders Bayswater City.

It will be the second encounter between the two sides, with the first ending in a 1-1 draw on the road in round one.

“We know that Bayswater are a fantastic side, we took it to them on the away leg . . . we’ve got to make sure we do it again and not just rely on the fact that we are home to get us over the line,” Gray said.

“This game is huge for our season . . . if we can beat them there’s a potential that we will set second, only three points behind top spot.”

While the first game of the season can be unpredictable and hard to measure, the side knows what to prepare for on Saturday.

“We know that they have a great goalkeeper and that was the reason why we were held to a one-all draw,” Gray said.

“We have to now make sure our shooting is on point this weekend, because if we can’t hit the target and get it past the goalkeeper then we are as good as done.”

With their recent winning form, Gray said the players felt they were doing the city of Geraldton proud with results in a Perth-based league.

“Enjoying the winning atmosphere . . . obviously the Buccaneers are performing, it feels like Geraldton as a collective is starting to perform on all scales,” he said.

“Instead of just one representative Geraldton club, we’ve got two or three different sports that are all performing.”

The Reds play Bayswater City on Saturday at Salvatore Sciuto Stadium. Kick-off is at 6pm.
