Local 17yo wins Mitchell & Brown Sale of the Century Volkswagen T-Cross after buying wine glasses and flask

A local superstore’s 13th car giveaway sale has left one 17-year-old and her father speechless after they unknowingly purchased a sale of the century. Hannah Frederiksen, 17, won the Mitchell & Brown Retravision’s annual sale of the century, taking home a brand new car worth $32,995 after shopping for home decor with her father during their three-day sale. Still learning to drive, Miss Frederiksen now owns a 2022 model Volkswagen T-Cross, and she says the lure of driving her new car will make her hassle her dad, Guy Frederiksen, for driving lessons more often. “There’s a push for it now,” she said. The 17-year-old works at the Geraldton Turf Club and is devoted to riding and working with horses, and said winning the car was a new beginning. “We bought $60 worth of wine glasses and a flask for the new house we’re meant to be moving into next year,” Miss Frederiksen said. “We pulled up to Mitchell & Brown and the car was in the car park, and I was like ‘oh that’s pretty cool’. We went to see the staff and they showed me that same car. “I don’t know what to say. It was really cool, it didn’t feel real that we were standing in front of a car that we owned.” Mr Frederiksen said they weren’t aware of the car giveaway when they went shopping at the store. “We didn’t even know there was one up for grabs, so it was pretty surreal when we got the phone call on Saturday arvo and Steve’s trying to tell us we’ve won a car,” he said. Mr Frederiksen said they were browsing at competing stores and comparing prices before they made a last-minute purchase from Mitchell & Brown. Mitchell & Brown managing director Steve Nanninga said it was a great feeling to give back to the community after all the support they received. “It’s very exciting, especially when it goes to someone who needs it or could do with it to support them in their life journey. The family were stoked to win it, so it was great,” he said. “When we took her over to the car, she was very excited and her father was as well. “We do it for the Mid West people and the reason we do it is because we get the support from the community.”
