Athletes from across the sporting spectrum have been getting their sweat on taking part in the CrossFit Open, one of the largest virtual competitions in the world.

The CrossFit Open is an annual event held over three weeks where CrossFit athletes from around the world compete against each other in a series of workouts.

Each week a new workout is released and athletes have a specified amount of time to complete it and submit their scores online.

The workouts are designed to test the athletes’ strength, endurance, and overall fitness, and they typically include a combination of exercises such as weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardiovascular conditioning.

As it’s run online anyone regardless of skills can enter, with the main part of the competition closing last week.

The top 10 per cent will advance to the virtual quarterfinals to vie for a ticket to the semi-final stage.

Geraldton CrossFit, led by head coach Dirranie ‘D’ Kirby, participated in the open as the club does every year with members entering a variety of events.

“The event is a great way to bring members together to test their skills in a supportive environment,” she said.

“It’s so great to have parents competing side by side with their kiddos, or being in the different heats and throwing all their energy into each other’s workouts, the vibe each week has been amazing.”

While the open is now finished, Geraldton CrossFit runs classes for all ages and abilities and anyone wishing to join can contact the club info@crossfitgeraldton.com.au.
