Geraldton have closed Lester Avenue at Cathedral Avenue and Fitzgerald Street this morning while they investigate the circumstances surrounding a car accident last night.

Police said a man was hit by a car about 10.45pm, but believe he was involved in an altercation with other people when he ended up on the road in front of a vehicle.

The man, in his 40s, was taken to Geraldton Hospital with serious injuries and later flown to Perth for treatment.

No charges have been laid.

Panaceum Medical Centre and Geraldton Car Wash are still accessible.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the crash, or the man on the road before the crash.
