Man, 55, killed near Geraldton when car he was driving veered off road and crashed into water pipeline
A 55-year-old man has died after the car he was driving veered off the road on the outskirts of Geraldton and struck a water pipeline.
Major crash officers are investigating the fatal crash in Georgina, near Geraldton, on Tuesday.
Police say a blue Holden Commodore station sedan towing a trailer was travelling north on Edward Road, near Georgina Road, about 12.20pm when it left the carriageway and crashed into a water pipeline that runs parallel to the road.
The 55-year-old driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died from critical injuries at the scene.
Before this fatality, there had been 10 lives lost on WA roads so far this year, before the end of the first month, including six in regional WA.
It is understood Major Crash investigators will be working at the crash scene into the evening. Police said the man’s family had been notified.
Tuesday’s crash happened on the same road as a horror double fatality on the WA Day long weekend in 2020, which killed two children.
On June 1, 2020, a crash between a sedan and a utility at the intersection of Edward and McCartney roads resulted in the deaths of Nate Stewart, 7, and Harmonie Cunningham, 10.
Investigators have urged anyone who saw the crash, or the Holden Commodore station sedan in the area before the crash, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make an online report at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
