Man in near drowning at Cervantes and flown to Perth by emergency helicopter understood to be intoxicated

A misadventure which led to a Mid West man in his 30s being flown to Perth after a suspected near-drowning on the beach is believed to be linked to alcohol. Paramedics rushed to help a man in his 30s after he was pulled from a body of water on Corunna Road, in Cervantes, at about 12.50pm on Tuesday. A St John WA spokeswoman confirmed three paramedic crews were called to the scene. The man was rushed to the Jurien Bay Health Centre by ambulance, where an RAC Rescue helicopter arrived before airlifting him to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He arrived in Perth at about 4.20pm. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but it is understood the man was intoxicated. Sources say the man was on the beach enjoying a social occasion when the call was made. Others say he was not in good shape and was having trouble breathing when he was pulled from the water. The man in his 30s was in a stable condition on Tuesday afternoon and was due to be released from hospital on Wednesday. He declined to comment.
