Mid West trio shining bright on the biggest of stages in Asia for the Australian Country side

A trio of Geraldton hockey stars are shining bright on the big stage as they represent the Australian Country squad in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Emma Bowen, Lauren Newman and Holly Stubberfield are now almost halfway through their 2025 tour of Asia as they take on the best that Singapore and Hong Kong have to offer.
The trio helped their team kick things off in their first game with a stunning 7-0 win over the under-21’s Singapore national team, getting their tour campaign off on the right foot.
The next night followed with a showdown between Australia and Singapore’s first national team in a tight contest. The trio managed to get over the line with a 2-1 victory.
Finishing off their Singapore leg of the tour, the squad faced off against the national development side in hot conditions in the middle of the day.
Australia dominated again with a 7-0 victory, drawing a close to Singapore as they set their sights on Hong Kong for the second leg of the tour.
Now having arrived in Hong Kong, Bowen said to be able to play for the country with her fellow Geraldton stars makes the trip all the more enjoyable.
“It’s an incredible experience to share with them”, she said
“We’ve played together at home, obviously, for country week, and then been able to play together in the WA state country, but then coming over and playing with a whole bunch of new people and in different lines is awesome.
“Lauren’s been in defence, I’ve been playing a midfielder, and then Holly’s been in the strike line, so we’ve been in different lines, but amazing to play together in a team like this.”
The squad now face a handful of games in Hong Kong before competing in a hockey 5’s tournament prior to the stars returning home.
