Geraldton will have permanent extended retail trading hours from this weekend.

Commerce Minister Bill Johnston has given his approval, Geraldton mayor Shane Van Styn said this morning.

The Minister had earlier this month given the nod to the regime, but then suspended approval after the City of Greater Geraldton failed to lodge a complete report reviewing the extended trading trial.

Mr Van Styn said Mr Johnston had since viewed the complete report and lifted the suspension.

“He believes his decision to grant permanent extended trading hours is sound and so it will be proceeding as planned from December 1,” he said.

“This is great news for the majority of people and businesses who want extended trading hours in Geraldton.”
