Ten acts representing a wide range of musical genres lit up the stage at the Queens Park Theatre amphitheatre for Battle of the Bands last Sunday.

Good Strife kicked off the entertainment with three original songs, and fellow bands The Aftermath, Space Age Girl and Silo Siren all rocked the hill before intermission.

Eardrums had little chance to settle before Ancient Eyes and youth band Psychedelic Foot Fungus got on stage with their original creations.

The Option, Organised Crime, 8 Canons Worth and Monitum closed the show.

City Mayor Shane Van Styn said “the bands shredded a heap of great tunes, making for an amazing day of celebrating our live music industry.”

One of the judges, Ian Weggler, was delighted with the Battle of the Bands line-up for 2022.

Monitum took home the grand prize of best band, with their versions of Nemesis, The Sound of Truth and Kill or be Killed.

“Monitum took home the top prize with a crushing, technical and relentless performance, but props need to be given to the all-original bands, The Option and 3 Canons Worth, who were both incredible on the day,” Weggler said.

Monitum was humble in victory, with the band only rating their performance a 6½ out of 10. They said they were surprised to see so many “metal heads” and people head-banging in the crowd.

Psychedelic Foot Fungus took out the title for best youth band, with their tracks The Jam, Black Feathers and Alien and the Samurai.

Good Strife claimed the gong for best original song for Rejects, the second time they have won this category.

”This has never been played for the public, Battle of the Bands was the first time it was performed and from the reactions and comments it was a catchy song that many are now calling Good Strife’s anthem,” the band said.
