Nadine Marie Brockman: Woman, 24, attacks ex-friend with baseball bat and damages bus with rock in Utakarra

A 24-year-old woman who chased down a former friend with a baseball bat because they were walking on her street in Utakarra has been fined and sentenced to a community-based order. Nadine Marie Brockman appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday when she was sentenced for throwing a rock at a bus and attacking an old friend who was walking on the street where she lives in Utakarra in February. The court was told Brockman approached the victim’s bus and threw a rock at it, causing damage to the vehicle. As the victim and a friend were walking down the street, Brockman became enraged and with a co-accused walked towards them with a baseball bat yelling “why are you walking on our street?” The victim was struck once to the thigh and received an injury to the head. Police prosecutor Sgt Carey Owen said the victim had a violence restraining order against Brockman at the time. Brockman pleaded guilty to criminal damage, being armed to cause fear, common assault and breaching a violence restraining order. She also pleaded guilty to stealing more than $800 of products from Woolworths Seacrest on April 8 and failing to appear at the Geraldton Police Station in July as part of her bail conditions. Defence lawyer George Giudice said Brockman became enraged because she was being sworn at, was drunk at the time of both offences but has since stopped drinking alcohol. Sgt Owen said using a weapon was an aggravating factor and the rock-throwing left a $2000 damage bill. Magistrate Angus Hockton said Brockman’s attitude on that day was poor because “you’re the one bound by the order” and it wasn’t true the victim shouldn’t be on the street. Brockman was sentenced to a nine-month community-based order with 40 hours of community work. She was fined to cover the costs of the damage bill.
