NDIS housing being built in the heart of Geraldton seeks to provide independent living

A local builder has started work on a State Disability Accommodation Housing project in Geraldton — the first of its kind for this region. Partnering with Sana Living, WA Country Builders has begun works on George Road with retaining and fencing currently in progress for a complex of three villas under the National Disability Insurance Scheme. There are currently no SDA facilities available in the Mid West Gascoyne region and these will provide for those requiring high physical support. They will have special modifications including live-in carer facilities and accessibility features such as automated doors allowing those eligible to seek independence. JWH regional general manager Tony Harvie said the team at WA Country Builders had been working directly with Sana Living to meet NDIS requirements. “By partnering with Sana Living, my team have had the opportunity to gain knowledge and a deeper understanding of the requirements to meet NDIS housing,” Mr Harvie said. “Our project officer Carrie Anderson is very passionate about this project and will lead other opportunities in Bunbury and Busselton.” Ms Anderson said these homes enabled participants with an opportunity to lead a relatively independent life. “Those that are on the NDIS program have traditionally not been offered these housing prospects as they are limited,” Ms Anderson said. “It gives them the chance to integrate with society away from the family home, in comfortable accessible surrounds.” Sana Living national development manager Andrew Carville manages the acquisition, design and delivery of all Sana Living SDA homes across Australia. The complex is expected to be completed in late 2023 with expressions of interest now open and can be made through Sana Living’s website.
