Despite his best efforts, Northampton’s Patrick Cripps couldn’t will his Carlton side to an AFL finals victory, leaving Coorow-Latham’s Logan McDonald as the sole Mid West player still playing for the ultimate footy prize.

Carlton were helped by six additions into the side, leaving Chapman Valley’s Jack Carroll to be edged out despite him being in good form.

The inclusions didn’t pay off for the Blues as the side was embarrassed early by Brisbane in their elimination final, trailing 60-0 before half-time.

Carlton’s first score came from Cripps getting an open look at goal to spark a comeback, but the damage had been done and the Blues fell 14.15 (99) to 11.5 (71).

The captain put his best foot forward like usual, amassing 31 touches, six clearances and a goal assist to go along with his major.

His exit leaves just former Coorow Magpie Logan McDonald in the finals race for the Mid West, following the Swans’ 13.10 (88) to 12.10 (82) thriller win over GWS.

He will have Isaac Heeney to thank for taking over the game, but McDonald had a handy game kicking 1.1 with 11 disposals, four marks and two clearances.

He will now get the week off before the Swans take on the winner of Port Adelaide and Hawthorn next weekend.
