Old heads continue to impress with State hockey selection as youngsters get under way at championships
More Geraldton hockey players have been recognised for their efforts at the recent country championships as Dirranie Kirby, Aileen Booth and Kerry Hood were all selected for the Masters WA team.
Booth and Hood were part of the division two masters squad that finished sixth at the tournament while Kirby was in the division one side, which claimed the title in June.
Kirby also captained the Australian Women’s 45 side to gold in the Trans Tasman Cup in May and will be part of the women’s O45 Gold squad while Hood and Booth will be in the O70 team.
Kirby was looking forward to more masters’ action.
“Excited to be in amongst this awesome display of hockey players across all age groups and congratulations to all the ladies that have been selected,” she said.
“There will be some great hockey being played in Perth in September, I can’t wait to get amongst it.”
The 2023 Nationals will be held in Perth from September 22-30.
While old heads continue to impress Geraldton youngsters have also been in action at the Fuel to go & Play Junior Club Championships in Perth.
The 7/8 girls’ side recovered from a rough first day, where they lost their first four games, to win their next three in a row before claiming third place in division two with a 5-1 win over Avon.
Geraldton had two sides in the boys 7/8 division with Gero (W) finishing second in Pool B to progress to division one play-offs where they finished eight while Gero (G) finished fifth with one draw and finished seventh in division two.
The boys 11/12 side had a perfect record with four straight wins and beat the Reds 3-1 to claim the title while the mixed 11/12 side finished in fifth place.
