Olympic one win from perfect season as Reds look to go undefeated in Mid West Soccer finals

The Mid West Soccer Association grand finals promise to be a weekend of gripping soccer action.

Olympic are just one win away from completing a perfect season after crushing Rovers 6-0 in their semi-final.

It is now 17 wins on the bounce and they look utterly unstoppable, boasting the league’s two top goal scorers in Paul Johnson (20) and Callum Wildes (15), who together have scored more goals than the bottom three sides combined.

They will face La Fiamma in the final, who edged out Abrolhos 2-1 in their semi-final clash.

Olympic has won all four of their previous clashes by a combined margin of 17-0 and it looks like it would take a miracle for the Reds to cause an upset.

In the women’s competition, La Fiamma crushed Marconi 5-0 to book their place in the final on Saturday.

Marconi had won only two games all season to go with 13 losses but did beat Olympic the week prior to get through to the second round of the finals.

But it was a clear mismatch on the night as the Reds brushed aside Marconi after not losing a game all season. A draw was the only blemish on their record.

They will face the winner of Abrolhos and Chapman Athletic but regardless of the opponent, you wouldn’t bet against the Reds completing an undefeated season.

It’s an all-Abrolhos final in the reserves competition after the Abrolhos Odins stunned minor premiers Olympic FC in their semi-final clash on Tuesday night.

Olympic had lost just one game through the regular season all the way back in May and would’ve been confident of going through.

But that one loss just so happened to be against the Odins and they were their nemesis once again, beating them 1-0 to take their spot in the final despite finishing at the bottom of the regular season ladder.

Abrolhos Thors cruised past the Rovers 3-0 to set up the intraclub clash. They took a 1-0 lead into halftime and were rarely threatened, running away in the second half.

They will go in as the favourites against the Odins but will be wary of a side that has seemingly turned their form around at just the right time.
