About 200 of Geraldton’s best young athletes competed for the coveted title of top school at the inaugural Batavia Cup last week. Held at Geraldton Christian College on Thursday, the interschool sports carnival was organised at short notice after the ever-popular country week event was cancelled in the wake of the State Government’s snap COVID-19 lockdown. Students from the host school joined their peers from Geraldton Senior High School, Geraldton Grammar School and Champion Bay Senior High School for a day of round-robin style basketball, netball, touch rugby and basketball matches. All teams were grateful for the chance to put their training to good use and Geraldton Senior High School went home with the winners’ trophy at the end of the day as champions of the inaugural Batavia Cup event.Pictured is Geraldton Senior High School country week captains Reef Parry, Ava O’Brien and Caitlin Mundy receive the Batavia Cup.
