Pilot Energy to work with Norwegian shipping company to transport CO2 to Mid West carbon capture project

A company which plans to convert its Mid West oil facility into a carbon capture and storage project is partnering with a Norwegian shipping company which will transport CO2 from Kwinana to the site. Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers AS has announced it will be working with Pilot Energy, which is behind plans to create the Cliff Head carbon capture and storage project near Dongara. Under the memorandum of understanding between the two groups, Pilot and KNCC will assess the viability of transporting liquefied CO2 produced by industrial emitters to Cliff Head where it will be injected and stored underground. “With the MOU in place we are excited to work with Pilot, which is targeting to transport and store CO2 at ambient temperature,” KNCC CEO Anders Lepsoe said. Pilot expects to begin the project in late 2025 or early 2026. “KNCC’s innovative LCO2-EP containment system for the transportation of liquefied CO2 at ambient temperatures is an ideal solution to efficiently transport captured CO2 emissions,” Pilot Energy chair Brad Lingo said.
