Police cars damaged, officer injured in alleged Karloo riot
Police are investigating a riot in Karloo last night in which officers and police cars were allegedly pelted with bricks and stones.
Police allege the incident happened about 7.25pm, when they responded to reports of about 20 people fighting in Zimmri Street.
On arrival, police allegedly witnessed people throwing rocks and bricks at a house.
When officers tried to intervene, rocks and other projectiles were allegedly thrown at their vehicles, damaging two police cars.
Soon after, a group of about 50 people arrived at the scene and a dispute flared with the original group.
Police were then allegedly pelted with bricks and stones, resulting in a female police officer suffering a minor wrist injury when she was struck by a projectile.
In response, police called in other units, including mounted police, to help disperse the crowd.
Police have since charged a 21-year-old Rangeway man and a 21-year-old Perth man with behaving in a disorderly manner in a public place or in sight or hearing of any person in a public place.
They are due to appear Geraldton Magistrates Court on November 28.
